In a joint promotion for Internet Explorer and British band The xx, Microsoft has created a site tracking the progress of the band’s new album, Coexist, around the world. Executed using HTML5, it offers a free stream of the album — set to be released on September 11th — and encourages listeners to share the link via Twitter, Facebook, and email. Each share is tracked and, when a user gives permission for the site to access their physical location, their point is plotted on a map. While the site is designed to promote Internet Explorer, it works on most modern browsers, including Chrome and Firefox — for fans seeking a stream without the added baggage, the album is also available in full on the NPR website.
