Here you will find some excellent portfolio website designs that I have compiled for your inspiration, as I too find it difficult to design for myself (which is why im guessing your here) as I am a massive critic of my own creations. I have learnt that when designing your own or a clients portfolio website, there is one thing to keep in mind, keep it ‘in niche’. The web design should be in the style of your work and your intended market.
I look forward to seeing your reactions to the selection, and if you have any other designs that you think should be a part of this list, let me know in the comment area
84 Colors – The portfolio of Cristiana Bardeanu is flourishing with wildlife and a hint of subtle animation throughout, and surprisingly, it took me a while to notice!
Chris Woods – A clean landing page followed by sophisticated slideshows, such an inviting combination and an excellent way to frame and display your work.
Daniel Stenberg – This beautiful landing page directs you to all of Daniels online profiles where clients can find his work and his words.
Dave Werner – This is exactly what I mean when I explained “keep it in niche” Dave Werner has found his niche, and targeting it very well with his creative navigation.
Dean Oakley – From the quirky cartoon background, to the button hover states this portfolio has it down or shall I say sideways.
Diego Latorre – I love this landing page by illustrator Diego Latorre the emotion on the boys face is grabbing and keeps me interested.
Douglas Menezes – A great example of how to use color, shape and texture to direct your attention to the content.
Foxie Graphic – This portfolio design has been floating around on various inspiration websites for a while now purely because of how unique it is and how it was the first of its style.
Alexey Chernishov – an excellent portfolio design, and another vertical sliding website I particularly like the use of paper textures in combination with the wooden background to give it that “on the desk” effect.
Hello Karl Studio – the navigation of this website and the way in which Karl has chosen to display his work in combination with the navigation is what grabbed my attention the most.
Jesse Willmon – I chosen this portfolio purely because of how unique it is, I have yet to see a website like this, and the hand-drawn theme runs throughout. Great example of branding.
Marc Anton Dahmen – At first the website appears very basic and plain, but when you check out the portfolio pages that is when everything steps up a bit. For those of you on the cutting edge of coding you may want to check this out
Matt Dempsey – Large Imagery, Clean Layout and straight to the point. How most portfolio’s should be!
N.Design Studio – combined with a popular design blog, this portfolio and blog expresses fantastic use of illustrations throughout.
Noel Design – A creative use of textures, shapes and depth. My only critique would be that it doesn’t seem to be in par with his portfolio work. But none the less, a great inspiration.
Odd Web Things – A unique take on displaying projects with the use of large numbers and large imagery, somehow he has kept it clean.
Pablo Dominguez – The portfolio preview images are all cohesive in style and layout, and go with the lines running through the background, everything has clearly been carefully though about.
Patagonia Creative – The middle man between professional and creative.
Ronnie San – Clean Web design is a popular choice for designers, and we either check out apple.com or look for websites like the one below.
Sawyer Hollenshead – Probably one of my most favorite designs of the bunch, very unique and fantastically laid out. Definitely worth a browse.
Serial Cut – A fantastic example of a fullscreen portfolio, obviously for this you need great work, and these guys have great work.
Serj Kozlov – The ambiance that Serj has created here is none other than relaxing, right from the color scheme to the small amount of texture that has been used. Another great design.
Sid Lee – What drawn me to this portfolio yet again is the navigation, im a sucker for good navigation and this design has it.
Tedone Design – Another portfolio design that has been featured on many websites for its navigational genius, check it out.
Veboo Labs – Inviting is the word I think im looking for, The use of illustration in this design is what makes it onto this list.
