The Nobel Prizes of 2013

The annual celebration of scientific discovery and cultural improvement known as the Nobel Prizes has now concluded its 2013 edition. The scientists behind the identification of the Higgs boson particle at CERN got a well-earned recognition, and the impact of science was also felt on the Peace Prize award. The UN’s Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was the surprising choice in that category, with the awarding committee acknowledging the importance of its work in overseeing the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal.
