How ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ turned awful B movies into comedy gold

Long before YouTube and Twitter gave us all an outlet to incessantly mock video clips with clever one liners, there was Mystery Science Theater 3000. The deliriously hilarious cable show — which revolved around a guy who’s exiled to a spaceship and forced to watch awful B movies in the company of two witty robot sidekicks — turns 25 this year, and Wired‘s pulled together the key writers and performers behind the show to record an “oral history” of how it all went down. It’s a must-read for any fan of the show, and there’s even a bit of a surprise at the end: show creator Joel Hodgson says he’s hoping to reboot the show online this spring.
