Obama accuses EU of attacking American tech companies because it ‘can’t compete’

Barack Obama has angered officials in Europe after suggesting that investigations by the European Union into companies like Google and Facebook were “commercially driven.” In an interview with Recode, the president claimed that European “service providers who … can’t compete with ours, are essentially trying to set up some roadblocks for our companies to operate effectively there.” The truth, however, is more nuanced than this.

Lyft accuses New York attorney general of lying about launch holdup

Lyft was set to launch in two parts of New York City today, a plan that was derailed following a court battle with state’s attorney general that’s now stretched into next week, and possibly beyond. Now the two sides have begun a public war of words against one another about why the ridesharing service didn’t launch, with Lyft going so far as to say the New York official is lying.

According to the New York attorney general, the State Supreme Court granted an injunction that kept Lyft from launching as planned. Now Lyft is saying that’s a “deliberate misstatement,” and that it’s the one that put the launch on hold in order to make changes to its service that will comply with local regulations.

Ellen Page accuses ‘The Last of Us’ developers of ‘ripping off’ her likeness

Ellen Page, the actor starring alongside Willem Dafoe in Quantic Dream’s upcoming video game Beyond: Two Souls, has hit out at another game for using her likeness without permission. Answering a Reddit AMA question on whether she was aware of Ellie, a major character in Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, Page said she wasn’t happy about being the alleged source of inspiration.

“I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness,” said Page. “But I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond: Two Souls, so it was not appreciated.”

The Last of Us was first revealed in late 2011, several months before Page’s role in Beyond: Two Souls was announced. The character of Ellie has changed appearance since the original incarnation,…
