Over 5 million Raspberry Pis have been sold

How big of a phenomenon is the Raspberry Pi? The charity organization behind the tiny, low-cost computer announced this morning that over 5 million Pis have now been sold. The original Pi went on sale about three years ago next week, so 5 million is a pretty huge milestone to hit in that short period of time. The organization boasts that this figure appears to make it “the biggest selling UK computer manufacturer ever,” though you wouldn’t be wrong to take issue with its comparison: Pi is selling $ 20 to $ 35 computers — not machines that you’re going to use for serious productivity for a few years.

Still, that’s not a knock on any of the Pis. They’re surprisingly capable machines at just $ 35, especially following the introduction of a…

Two people have been arrested for leaking ‘The Expendables 3’

Two men have been arrested in connection with the leak of The Expendables 3 this past July. A DVD-quality version of the entire film found its way onto torrent sites three weeks before Expendables 3 premiered in US theaters. In the days and weeks that followed, that file was downloaded over 2 million times. Lionsgate has directly blamed the widespread Expendables 3 leak for the movie’s lackluster showing at the summer box office. In August, the studio filed a lawsuit against 10 anonymous individuals responsible for the leak. But they’re anonymous no longer; now it seems authorities have rounded up the perpetrators.

Brookstone puts up pre-order page for Fitbit Surge before it’s been announced

Fitbit still hasn’t gotten around to officially announcing its new $ 250 Surge fitness watch, but the company’s retail partners are no longer waiting around. An apparent mixup has led Brookstone to prematurely publish a pre-order page for the “super watch.” A friendly tipster clued us in on the mistake. And the page (still live as of this writing) confirms everything we’ve already told you: Surge is a fitness watch — not a smartwatch — with built-in GPS and a variety of sensors that can record your workouts and overall activity regardless of whether it’s linked up to a smartphone.

Fitbit’s going after runners in a big way with this device; they’ll be able to look back at split times and route history thanks to the GPS, all without…

William Shatner says he’s been asked to come back to ‘Star Trek’

William Shatner’s Captain Kirk could be coming back to Star TrekSpeaking at Wizard World Nashville Comic Con, a typically laconic Shatner said that he’d recently received a call from J.J. Abrams regarding a role in the third Star Trek movie since the series was rebooted in 2009. Shatner said that discussions were preliminary at the moment and that any appearance would depend on what was done with his character, but that he would be “delighted” to return to Starfleet.

Speaking at the convention, Shatner said that he was surprised Abrams had called, as the two hadn’t spoken for several years. Abrams had tried to get Shatner into his rebooted Star Trek timeline before, but Abrams said the plan fell through because Shatner made it “very…
