Seth Rogen and James Franco livetweet The Interview just three days after release

It’s a fairly regular occurrence now for actors and directors to livetweet along with their movies months or years after their theatrical release, but Seth Rogen and James Franco’s tweet-a-long viewing of The Interview, held today at 2pm using the hashtag #TheInterview, is unprecedented. It’s only three days since The Interview, the bro-comedy that sees both Rogen and Franco infiltrate North Korea to kill Kim Jong Un, officially hit theaters and download services. Rogen, who co-directed the movie, noted the speed at which the movie made it to the small screen.

PlayStation Network back online nearly three days after Christmas attack

This long holiday weekend hasn’t been a good one for gamers. Both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network were taken offline over Christmas, just as hundreds of thousands unwrapped their new consoles and plugged them in for the first time. But now, nearly three days after both services went offline, gamers are now free to play online once again.

PSN was down for the count

PlayStation Network engineers brought the service back online on Saturday, and Microsoft had Xbox Live back up and running on Friday. Sony has confirmed in a blog post that its network was victim to a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS), which overwhelmed its servers with “artificial,” or junk traffic. It’s believed Xbox Live was subjected to the same attack.

66-year-old rock guitarist sentenced to 10 days in jail for role in Anonymous attack

Geoffrey Commander doesn’t fit the standard Anonymous profile. He’s a successful musician, earning his living by playing guitar for ELO and Elton John. At 66, he’s also a good deal older than your average hacktivist. But according to the indictment handed down last October, Commander was one of a group of 13 defendants who disrupted the websites of Bank of America, Mastercard, and a number of anti-piracy groups as part of Anonymous’s Operation Payback. Commander and his 12 co-defendants haven’t had as high a profile as the PayPal 13, who were brought before court around the same time, but they’re charged with the same crime: using a freely available web tool called the Low Orbit Ion Cannon to perform a denial-of-service attack.

Apple’s fix for major iOS 8 bug coming in the ‘next few days’

Apple now says a working version of that update will be ready “in the next few days.” In the meantime, the company has outlined a way to restore both cell service and Touch ID to unlucky users who downloaded the faulty update. The company’s using a similar method to the workaround that was discovered earlier today.

Per a company spokesperson:

We have a workaround for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who lost cellular service and Touch ID functionality today after updating to iOS 8.0.1. Affected users can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes, for more information visit h…
