Robin Williams has died in an apparent suicide

Actor Robin Williams has died in an apparent suicide, the Marin County Sheriff’s office said. In a press release, the sheriff’s office said they received a 911 call from Williams’ home in Tiburon, California, late this morning. He was pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m. in what authorities believe was a suicide due to asphyxiation. A full investigation into his death is under way.

The inventor of Kevlar has died at 90

Stephanie L. Kwolek, the DuPont chemist primarily credited with the invention of Kevlar, died today at the age of 90. Nearly fifty years ago, in 1965, she created a cloudy liquid polymer solution that seemed to be a disappointment at first. When spun into a fiber, however, the resulting material was incredibly strong and lightweight — pound for pound, it was five times stronger than steel. And it was fire resistant, to boot. Her discovery ultimately led to Kevlar fabric, though DuPont spent 15 years and $ 500 million developing the product and finding uses for the life-saving material.

Over 1,500 Americans have died from taking too much acetaminophen in the past decade

One of America’s best-known pain relievers has a lesser-known dark side. Over the past decade, more than 1,500 Americans have died from taking too much acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, reports ProPublica. Though tens of millions of people reportedly use it weekly without adverse effects, large amounts of the drug can lead to liver damage and other major health issues — a fact that isn’t as widely publicized as the drug’s potential health benefits.
