But what I want to teach is a way of observing your surroundings and then make notes for yourself visually. Use whatever technique you’re most comfortable with, but don’t use erasers while studying.

If it’s dripping or flowing down then you’ll be able to see faint traces of object shapes and light sources behind it. Regarding light interaction, slime behaves very similarly to stained glass.

The key is to understand the proportions and how the volume and placement of a feature is depicted from various angles. A sharp, chiselled nose is certainly easier to depict in a side view. But knowing how to depict that same nose with the same proportions in the front view is the key to getting this right.
