Moment’s new case gives your phone a real shutter button

Taking photos with your smartphone is quick, convenient, and, more often than not, pretty fun. But even the most die-hard smartphone shooters would admit that taking photos with your phone isn’t quite the same as using a traditional camera. Moment is looking to bridge the gap between smartphones and traditional cameras with its new Moment Case, launching on Kickstarter today.

The Moment Case has an integrated mount for Moment’s wide-angle and telephoto lenses released last year, as well as mounting points for neck or wrist straps. It can even determine which of Moment’s lenses are attached, sending that information to Moment’s app for improved image processing. But the most interesting part of the Moment Case is its two stage shutter…

This Better Call Saul trailer gives the best look yet at the Breaking Bad spinoff

After months of coyness, we’ve finally got a clear look at the upcoming Better Call Saul. Unlike previous glimpses of the Breaking Bad spin-off, AMC’s new 30-second trailer shows a more coherent montage of images from the life of amoral rascal Jimmy McGill, who eventually reinvents himself as the Jewish lawyer Saul Goodman for the “homeboys” who want “a pipe-hitting member of the tribe.” Here, we see Jimmy dramatically declaring that someone will atone for an undisclosed sin, Jimmy gagged and dropped onto the ground, and Jimmy being advised that his line of work can result in one being “so caught up in winning” that they “forget to listen to their heart.” The premiere will air in February over the course of two nights: Sunday, February…

New teaser gives us our first look at ‘Jurassic World’

The first Jurassic World trailer isn’t set to arrive until Thanksgiving, but Universal is giving us our first taste of the film right now. The latest teaser includes the very first footage from the film seen yet, and that includes glimpses of dinosaurs, Chris Pratt, the park, and some crazy new vehicles that make the multi-colored Jeeps of old seem mundane by comparison. If there’s one takeaway from the 20 seconds of video, however, it’s that the filmmakers have worked hard to go back to the series’ roots. The clips seem like they’re be right at home with the style and tone of the original film, just with some modern updates for 2015. The film, which sees visitors return to Jurassic Park 22 years after the events of the first movie, will…

Twitter gives MIT researchers access to every single public tweet

Twitter is opening up its vault for researchers at MIT’s Media Lab, and it’s giving them $ 10 million to try and glean some insights from the deluge of tweets. The team of researchers, working under the title “Laboratory of Social Machines,” will have access to Twitter’s highly valuable “fire hose” of live public tweets, as well as archives of every public 140-character-or-less utterance posted to the service since its founding in 2006. With the raw data, the group intends to “create new platforms for both individuals and institutions to identify, discuss, and act on pressing societal problems,” according to a statement from MIT.

The group’s goals are fairly vague at this point, but the researchers appear to be focusing on magnifying…

Simplicam gives Dropcam a run for less money

Arcsoft is a company you’ve probably never heard of, but you’ve likely got some of its technology in your pocket. For the past two decades it’s made imaging tools, including ones that stitch together panoramic photos and detect when people are smiling to get a perfect group shot. That’s ended up in smartphones, and in cameras from Nikon and Canon, but Arcsoft has never actually made something of its own. That’s changing today with a home-monitoring camera called Simplicam, which is arguably the closest anyone’s come to unseating Dropcam with its price, feature list, and ease of use.

Daft Punk gives elusive ‘Human After All’ remix album worldwide release after 8 years

Daft Punk’s polarizing 2005 album Human After All got an extensive remix treatment back in 2006, featuring such acts as Soulwax and Justice. The only trouble was that the LP was exclusive to Japan, making it hard for diehard international fans to get copies. Eight years later, the duo has finally (albeit quietly) given the album a worldwide release, and even went so far as to include a few new tracks.

The 15-track album feature no fewer than six remixes for Technologic, and boasts new appearances from Basement Jaxx and Le Knight Club, a side project of robot Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. In fact, the Le Knight Club version has apparently gained mythical status among fans; according to Harder Blogger Faster, the track never enjoyed an…
