Leaked CIA documents show how to beat airport security like a spy

WikiLeaks has published a pair of internal CIA documents briefing undercover agents on how to dupe security at airports. The two documents — both classified as “Secret/NOFORN” meaning not to be shared with allied security agencies — give spies advice on how to maintain their cover. They also provide a detailed overview of the covert tactics airports use to vet travelers.

TOP CIA ADVICE: If you’re a spy, try not to look nervous

Although some of the information in the documents is public knowledge, advice on how to avoid being singled out for secondary screening could be useful to a variety of people. These include tourists and travelers trying to get home for the holidays, but also terrorists, drug traffickers, and common criminals. The…

Leaked Windows 10 build reveals new Xbox app and Cortana integration

Microsoft is currently readying an updated preview of Windows 10 to focus on the consumer features of the upcoming operating system. While the company plans to detail those improvements at a January press event, a consumer build (9901) has leaked out onto the web today to provide an early look at the various changes Microsoft is making.

The biggest new feature since the recent technical preview is the addition of Cortana. A video demonstration leaked earlier this month, but the build itself shows how Cortana sits at the top of the search interface for Windows 10, responding to text and voice commands. It’s all very similar to the Windows Phone version, as you’d expect, with access to the notebook, reminders, and interests. It’s not…

Leaked Sony emails show torturous process behind Sorkin’s Steve Jobs movie

Emails leaked in the massive hack of Sony Pictures have revealed fractious debates behind the production of Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs movie. Much of the drama, collated by Gawker, is between producer Scott Rudin and Sony Pictures chairman Amy Pascal (both pictured above), who clash heads over Angelina Jolie and David Fincher. Jolie apparently wanted the Social Network director for her own Cleopatra project, but was upset with Sony for putting him on Steve Jobs.

Microsoft Lumia phone with a huge camera bump appears in leaked photos

Microsoft appears to have been developing a new Lumia device with a camera bump that’s bigger or equal in size to the 41-megapixel Lumia 1020. Leaked photos from a Chinese auction site show a device identified only as “Nokia RM-1052” running Windows Phone 8.1 alongside 2GB of RAM and what appears to be a 5-inch 1080p display. The camera bump is the obvious addition here, dominating the rear of this device with its aluminum body.

While it’s possible this device could be an elaborate fake, there are signs that suggest it’s simply a Windows Phone prototype. At the rear of the mysterious handset there is Nokia prototype text, and the device looks unfinished in places. The body seems to be aluminum, but there’s a plastic strip at the bottom…

First Lumia with Microsoft branding spotted in leaked images

Microsoft revealed its plans to drop the Nokia moniker on its Lumia smartphones last month, and it appears that a new device with the new Microsoft Lumia branding is on the way soon. Images from Chinese regulator TENAA show a new Lumia handset with Microsoft branding at the front and rear in what appears to be a bigger version of the Lumia 530. The new device is simply labelled RM-1090 for now, but it offers dual-SIM support with what will likely be low-end specifications.

As part of Microsoft’s official announcement, the company did hint that a new Lumia would be launching soon. This new handset appears to be the latest low-end Windows Phone from Microsoft, an approach that the company is using to try and push the overall operating…

Images of the first official Lego Minecraft sets have leaked

The idea of Minecraft Lego isn’t entirely new — Minecraft is, ostensibly, Lego’s digital spirit animal. And now thanks to Russian store Mir Kubikovan, we’ve gotten the first look at six official Minecraft Lego sets (as translated: Cave, Dragon Edge, Farm, First Night, and Workbench).

According to Gizmodo, these are officially due out this November. Until then, enjoy the eye candy — or play the digital version. You know… Minecraft.

Leaked Windows 9 video shows multiple desktops at work

Glimpses of the next Windows have been coming out at a steady clip, but the latest is the clearest yet of the operating system’s multiple desktops. German site WinFuture obtained a video showing off a build of the new feature and how users can expect to use it.

As seen in the video, the taskbar for this early build of Windows 9 includes an icon for creating and closing virtual desktops. New workspaces can be made on the fly, and each workspace and their open programs can be accessed from this icon. The interface is certainly reminiscent of what’s already been available on OS X and even Linux for years, but it’ll be a welcome feature for power users when the new OS finally debuts.

Samsung’s ‘Gear VR’ virtual reality headset purportedly revealed in leaked image

SamMobile has published what it claims is the first image of Samsung’s upcoming virtual reality device. The product is allegedly called Gear VR, and as Engadget reported last month, is the result of a collaboration between Samsung and Oculus VR. Unlike the Oculus Rift, Samsung’s Gear VR isn’t a virtual reality headset in the traditional sense. Based on rumors we’ve seen thus far, it’s more accurate to think of it as a fancier version of Google’s Cardboard giveaway. Your phone powers the entire experience. Presumably the Gear VR will offer a more comfortable means of strapping a smartphone onto your face thanks to its elastic band and padding. It’s not the sleekest looking thing, though what we’re seeing here appears to be a render – and…

Motorola’s first phone since Google sale leaked

It looks like Motorola’s next smartphone won’t stray far from the design language of the Moto X and the Moto G before it, if images leaked on Friday are legitimate. We’re getting an early look at what’s said to be the Moto E courtesy of Brazilian retailer Fast Shop. The retailer jumped the gun on Friday and posted its listing for the Moto E, which is expected to be announced on Tuesday in London.

The phone marks Motorola’s first new device since Google announced in January that it was selling the smartphone unit to Lenovo, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it looks so similar to the Moto X and Moto G. Considering just how long it takes to develop a smartphone, this device was created under Google’s watch. And as Motorola made…
