Virgin America’s TV controller looks pretty gross with this iPhone zoom lens

We just spent a whole week in Las Vegas looking at all sorts of gadgets and writing up our thoughts in hands-on posts. While we were there, Olloclip gave us the new 3-in-1 macro lens to try out. It has the same magnification capabilities as the one for the iPhone 5 and 5s — 7x, 14x, and a crazy 21x zoom — but the form factor has been updated to fit the iPhone 6.

At those magnification levels it gets a little tough to keep your phone steady, but you have to be so close to your subject anyways that you can lean on the plastic guards which come along with the clip. If you can steady yourself enough — not an easy feat when you’re fighting turbulence — the lenses can let you get closer than ever while producing some really great images.

Read more about Behind the virtual lens: get to know your CG camera at CreativeBloq.com

While there is hardly a CG image rendered without them, virtual cameras are often overlooked by the artists, who understandably prefer to focus on scene geometry, lighting and animation. A camera, with its seeming simplicity, stays behind the scenes both literally and metaphorically.

J.J. Abrams apologizes for overusing lens flare: ‘I know it’s too much’

J.J. Abrams isn’t sorry for the last two Star Trek films, Super 8, or Mission: Impossible III — all of which he directed. But he is sorry for the rampant lens flares streaking across the screen in each of those films. In an interview with Crave Onlinethe man who will helm Star Wars: Episode VII confessed that there were so many lens flares in early cuts of Star Trek Into Darkness that he hired special effects house Industrial Light & Magic to erase some of his signature embellishments from the film.

“I’m so aware of it now.” “I know I get a lot of grief for that,” Abrams admitted. “But I’ll tell you, there are times when I’m working on a shot, I think, ‘Oh this would be really cool… with a lens flare.’ But I know it’s too…

Fujifilm announces the XM-1, its cheapest retro-styled interchangeable lens camera

Embargo_x-m1_lineup_pressimage_061313_large

Fujifilm’s excellent X-Pro1 combined the stylish retro looks of the X100 with a high-quality lens ecosystem, but the $ 1699 price point (and similarly expensive lenses) limited its appeal a bit. Last fall’s X-E1 brought the barrier of entry down to under $ 1000, but Fujifilm’s pushing things further with the brand-new X-M1 — a $ 699.99 (body only) camera that features the same interchangeable lens mount as the X-Pro1 and X-E1. The X-M1 also features a 16.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, which is based on the same X-Trans technology and features the same megapixel count as the sensors found in Fujifilm’s more expensive cameras.

The sensor features an ISO range of 100 to 25,600, the same range found in the X-Pro1, and the camera can also…
