Last year, our friends at Red Wing Shoes invited us out to explore their factory in Minnesota. And, right next door to Red Wing is S.B. Foot Tanning Company. Established in 1872 by the Foot family, the business was eventually purchased by Red Wing……

Apple is set to embark upon one of its largest philanthropic efforts ever. Starting this week, the company is launching a massive AIDS fundraising campaign for Product RED in partnership with some of the largest app developers in the iTunes App Store. During the two-week period from now through December 7th, money spent on qualifying apps or in-app purchases will be entirely donated to the AIDS-fighting charity — neither developers nor Apple will take a cut.
The program is called “Apps for RED.” Popular apps like Garageband, Clear, Monument Valley, FarmVille 2, Angry Birds, Threes, Paper, Cut the Rope, FIFA 15, Rayman Fiesta Run, The Sims, and several more are offering special RED-branded content or app updates as part of the…
When you turn on your Xbox One this weekend, you might notice a few changes. Microsoft is rolling out one of the largest feature updates yet for its game console to all users starting this weekend. A year after launch, the console now has customizable backgrounds. You’ll be able to set an achievement image or any other photo from a USB drive as your homescreen wallpaper, replacing the black backdrop we’ve all been staring at for months.
That’s not the only new customization feature: the bio and location fields, which disappeared during the transition from the Xbox 360, are now back in your profile, and there’s a new “showcase” that allows you to mark a handful of achievements and gameplay clips to highlight to your friends.
One of the…
SoundCloud can finally say it’s got the support of at least one major music label: Warner Music Group. The streaming site has signed a licensing agreement with Warner and will pay the label royalties whenever one of its songs is played on SoundCloud. Warner will also earn money if a song from its catalog is cut up and spliced into mashups on the site, according to The Wall Street Journal, where news of today’s deal was first reported.
Warner was allegedly hesitant to sign any pact with SoundCloud until the company promised to deliver a premium subscription offering to consumers sometime in the first half of 2015. The free, ad-supported service that millions of consumers use every month will remain available, though we don’t yet know…
Apple says it’s working “around the clock” on a fix to its 8.0.1 update, which went out Wednesday and proceeded to wreak havoc for owners of the company’s newest iPhones. Apple now says a working version of that update will be ready “in the next few days.” In the meantime, the company has outlined a way to restore both cell service and Touch ID to unlucky users who downloaded the faulty update. The company’s using a similar method to the workaround that was discovered earlier today.
Per a company spokesperson:
We have a workaround for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who lost cellular service and Touch ID functionality today after updating to iOS 8.0.1. Affected users can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes, for more information visit h…
Following on from the hugely successful The International 4 tournament this summer, Valve’s Dota 2 is soon going to get one of its biggest makeovers since its release. The headline figure for patch 6.82 is the Shadow Fiend hero, who’s getting a big cosmetic redesign, but there are more important changes afoot on the map upon which this game of swashbuckling and sorcery is played. Unlike most online multiplayer games, Dota 2 is played on only a single asymmetric map, and familiarity with its nuances is part the game’s strategic depth. The Roshan pit has been repositioned slightly, along with small terrain and path alterations all over the map.
Other notable hero changes include the addition of new skills for the Bloodseeker and Phantom…
If you’ve gone through security in an American airport, you’ve passed by millions of dollars’ worth of equipment. There are backscatter machines, luggage X-rays and explosive-sniffing computers — some of the most advanced monitoring machines the US government can offer. But a new report from the security firm Qualys has uncovered some gaping security holes in that equipment, letting attackers disable or undermine crucial elements of the TSA’s security apparatus.
Microsoft shipped a big update to Windows 8.1 earlier this year with improvements to the mouse and keyboard experience, but the second upcoming update is minor in comparison. Available on August 12th, the second update, which Microsoft is not calling Windows 8.1 Update 2, will include precision touchpad improvements, a change to enable PCs to act as a Miracast receiver, and a reduction in login prompts for SharePoint online. The touchpad improvements allow users to enable right-click, double tag, drag, and a setting to keep a touchpad on when a mouse is connected.
That’s all Microsoft is detailing so far, and it sounds a lot more minor than many had hoped. Back in April when Microsoft originally showed off the new Start Menu, the…

Mexican artist Aldo Crusher has recently designed an inspiring collection of illustrations of all the major cities of the world, entitled “Cosmopolis“. He has combined his unique conceptual illustration style, which is the use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, and shapes to represent buildings and famous monuments of each metropolis, with beautiful colors.
The exuberant use of colors and unique geometry of the structures depicts how architecture in our big cities has begun to reflect our culture as a whole. From the sandy beaches of Cape Town to the giant skyscrapers of New York, Aldo has perfectly implemented the key elements of each city into his illustrations. Take a look at the sunset in Madrid, you’re going to love it.
