10 typographic mistakes everyone makes (including us…)

Read more about 10 typographic mistakes everyone makes (including us…) at CreativeBloq.com

In typography, as in grammar, there is no objective ‘right’ way to do things; there are just conventions, and these conventions change over time. And what’s more, while we could argue that the examples we’re about to give are indeed mistakes – that is, things that are wrong – it’s also true that there are often technical or style reasons to make them deliberately; we do on Creative Bloq all the time.

LG makes even normal appliances seem weird at CES 2015

You can always find weirdly high-tech appliances at CES, be it a washing machine that receives text messages or a refrigerator with a tablet grafted onto it. But you can also find some of the strangest versions of everyday appliances, too. And this year, the strangest are definitely at LG’s booth.

The appliance that attracted the biggest crowd was easily LG’s Twin Wash washing machine. It’s mostly just a normal washing machine, but on the bottom there’s a second miniature washing machine. LG’s idea is that you can put in two loads at once to save time or use the mini washer for a small number of delicates that you want to put on a different cycle. Logitech’s MegaBoom makes the best Bluetooth speaker bigger and louder

Last summer, we had no hesitation in crowning the Ultimate Ears Boom as our favorite portable Bluetooth speaker, but today it’s getting some competition from a bigger brother with the introduction of the $ 299 MegaBoom. A faithful enlargement of the Boom in all respects, the UE MegaBoom maintains the same cylindrical, waterproof design while delivering deeper bass and even louder sound. The Boom was already capable of filling a large room and the MegaBoom expands those dimensions to the point where it compares favorably against much less portable desktop speaker sets.

I’ve been using a MegaBoom for a week ahead of CES, and it’s been a great addition to my home office. It has completely replaced the integrated speakers on my 27-inch iMac,…

Instagram makes teens and celebrities angry by killing millions of spambots

A crackdown on spam Instagram accounts has triggered a cataclysm in the world of low-grade social media celebrities. The event, which began today after the photo-sharing service made good on its promise to start deleting millions of fake accounts, has been dubbed the “Instagram Rapture” after the follower counts of apparently popular Instagrammers were savaged. Rapper Tyga saw his followers drop from 5.5 million to 2.2 million, while Ma$ e committed Instagram’s version of seppuku, deleting his account after freefalling from 1.6 million followers to around 100,000.

Some users have revelled in the spam massacre, suggesting that those who have seen the biggest drops are guilty of having purchased fake followers to boost their numbers, while…
