Apple announces OS X 10.10 Yosemite with refreshed design

At its annual conference for developers, Apple today announced the next version of its desktop operating system, OS X. OS X 10.10 Yosemite follows in the footsteps of last year’s OS X 10.9 Mavericks with an even cleaner design and more features inspired by iOS.

The flat design, translucent panels, and lack of gradients and textures of iOS 7 can be found throughout OS X 10.10, lending a much more modern look to the desktop operating system. App icons feature new, flatter designs, and the dock and windows of apps have sharper corners. App windows can also adjust their color temperature based on a user’s selected background, not unlike iOS. HTC One mini 2 leak points to refreshed body and specs

As the dust settles on the HTC One M8 launch, it looks as though HTC is ready to reveal a sequel to last year’s One mini. Phone leaker Evleaks has released what appears to be a press image of the HTC One mini 2, a smaller version of the company’s new flagship Android smartphone.

The new One mini bears more than a passing resemblance to the One M8, with the same color options and basic design, including a switch to onscreen buttons and a wraparound metal body. Being a smaller phone, there are likely to be some sacrifices. One notable change from the M8 is a single camera at the rear, rather than the M8’s dual-camera setup. Microsoft brings a Clippy-like helper to its refreshed Office Web Apps

Microsoft is refreshing its Office Web Apps this week with a new user interface and some feature additions. The most significant change is a new “Tell Me” bar that sits at the top of documents and allows users to simply type out questions when they need document help. Not to be confused with Microsoft’s TellMe voice service, the Office Web Apps “Tell Me” feature will surface features based on the query. Given the complexity of the desktop versions of Office, it’s not unreasonable to assume this same feature might make its way to those apps in future. It’s not quite Clippy, but it’s a basic helper that, unlike Microsoft’s traditional online documentation, is simple to use.
