Second Furious 7 trailer expands on the insanity of the first

One of our favorite trailers from the Super Bowl has gotten an extended version today with the release of the second official Furious 7 promo. It features many of the same scenes that made us gawp, chuckle, and rejoice at the first one, but now fills a whole three minutes with extra action and awesomely cliched dialog. Jason Statham’s the new vengeful villain that Dom and company have to face, and the stunts he forces them into performing are incredible in every sense of the word. And, oh yeah, there’s a Rock Bottom through a glass table. Film escapism at its very finest.

This is what’s happening inside your camera at 10,000 frames per second

The “D” in DSLR does not stand for dark magic. In fact, that snap of the shutter you hear when taking a picture is a wonderful symphony of mechanical engineering at work, and happens so fast that you can’t really enjoy it all with the naked eye. Luckily, the Slow Mo Guys have painstakingly chronicled what’s happening with the mechanical shutter of a Canon 7D using a very fast (and expensive) Phantom Flex camera, recording various shutter speeds at a mind-boggling 10,000 frames per second.

Fox is bringing Gotham back for a second season

Fox announced today that its Batman origin series Gotham will be back for a second season, Variety reports. It’s the first renewal success from DC Comics’ push for TV screens; last year DC put out three shows, including Constantine on NBC, The Flash on CW, and Gotham on Fox. According to Variety, renewing Gotham seems like an easy decision for Fox with the show pulling in an average of 10.6 million viewers.

While The Flash and Constantine may also be renewed, Constantine will have much more of an uphill climb. NBC halted production of the show last November after 13 episodes. Meanwhile, DC isn’t slacking on the big screen. DC and parent company Warner Bros. countered Marvel’s insane movie plan with 10 of its own superhero films that are…

Netflix’s second exclusive Marvel series, Jessica Jones, gets its lead actress

Netflix has four — count ’em — four exclusive Marvel series on the way, and while the Daredevil reboot is getting all the attention, Jessica Jones just locked down its female lead. According to Deadline, Krysten Ritter has secured the role of the titular superhero-turned-private eye.

Ritter has made several movies, including Confessions of a Shopaholic and What Happens in Vegas, but she’s better known for her television work. Breaking Bad fans will recognize her as Jane, Jessie’s girlfriend from season two, and she’s also starred in her own ABC show, Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23, which was canceled after two seasons.

Jessica Jones is the second of Netflix’s planned four series. It’ll follow Daredevil in 2015, and will join shows…
