I have a number of problems with this Taylor Swift / Nine Inch Nails mashup

So my friend and former colleague David Pierce just tweeted that this mashup of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” and Nine Inch Nail’s “Perfect Drug” is the new “Call Me Maybe” / “Head Like A Hole”, and I just want to say that he is wrong, for the following exhaustive list of reasons.

1. The Call Me Maybe mashup is a perfect mix of Reznor’s vocals and Carly Rae Jepson’s backing track; the verse is great, and the chorus is pure gold. The Shake It Off mashup is fine during the verse, but misses when Taylor’s vocals reappear and then totally falls down during the chorus.

2. Perfect Drug has one of the best drum breaks of all time. It is perfect, and unassailable. Whatever this is still has Taylor Swift fake-rapping the words “this sick beat.”…

Inspirational Miniature Drawings Created by Taylor Mazer

Miniature Drawings2The miniature drawings below were created by US based freelance artist Taylor Mazer throughout December 2014. For the base of each piece he starts with a mechanical pencil and moves onto a fine nib micron pen, with this he then perfects all the lines and adds the incredible details and shading that you see below. via: Taylor Mazer

Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch joining the cast of ‘True Detective’

True Detective season two finally has its female leads. Actors Rachel McAdams and Kelly Reilly are both joining the cast for the show’s second outing, alongside Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell. Friday Night Lights alum Taylor Kitsch will also round out the cast.

The news confirms McAdams’ involvement in the new season, which has been rumored for some months. According to the HBO release, she will play Ventura County Sheriff Ani Bezzerides, a detective “whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves.” She will presumably serve…

Sony Music is re-evaluating its approach to streaming because of Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s decision to pull her music from Spotify — in large part because of its ad-supported free service — has gotten the attention of another entertainment giant. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Sony Music chief financial officer Kevin Kelleher said the world’s second-largest music company is re-evaluating its approach to streaming services like Spotify.

“Actually, a lot of conversation has taken place over the last week in the light of that,” Kevin Kelleher said regarding Swift’s disappearance from Spotify. “What it all really comes down to is how much value are the music company and the artist getting from the different consumption methods.” Of course, that doesn’t mean that the massive amount of music distributed by…

Taylor Swift’s label hits back at Spotify by disclosing streaming royalties

The war of words continues between music streaming service Spotify and powerful pop icon Taylor Swift. After Swift removed her entire catalog from the streaming service last week, Spotify boss Daniel Ek said that she, along with other mainstream artists, was on track to earn over $ 6 million in royalties this year. But Scott Borchetta, CEO of Swift’s label Big Machine, has countered that claim, saying that the “Shake It Off” singer had earned less than $ 500,000 from Spotify streams in the US in the last 12 months.

A Spotify spokesperson told Time that Swift had been paid a total of $ 2 million over the last 12 months for the global streaming of her songs, but Borchetta still maintains that Spotify is a blight on the music industry. “The…

Spectacular illustrated posters by Ken Taylor

wtwta-reg

Based in Melbourne, Ken Taylor is an illustrator and designer who made himself a name in the music industry. His work that got my attention is the illustrated posters for movies. I really wish some movies would have so cool posters for their promotion.

Redesigned World Cup Posters by James Taylor

With every FIFA World Cup we get to see the arrival of a brand new official poster. These World Cup posters have always been designed to represent the competition, by blending the glory and beauty of the game with cultural elements from each host nation, to create a true celebration of football.

Recently, US based designer James Taylor set himself the personal project of redesigning each official poster from all of the previous 19 World Cups. As you will see, the end result is quite impressive.

Taylor has described this project as a truly remarkable journey that will take you back to the time where it all started. To describe the project in his own words; “Every World Cup has its own particular feel, which I’ve tried to suggest with each design, while obviously evoking the period graphically… and hopefully improving on some of the originals!”
