Sködia's Stylishly Cozy Sweats

Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s apocalypse novel ‘Good Omens’ is being adapted into a BBC Radio drama

The end of the world is coming soon…to radio. The BBC announced today that it has begun production on an audio drama adaptation of Good Omens, the hit 1990 comedic fantasy novel about the apocalypse from celebrated authors Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Both authors are onboard to help develop the miniseries, which has already begun recording in a secret location in London, for a scheduled airing on BBC Radio 4 sometime in December. It will span five half-hour-long episodes and one hour-long finale.

Dirk Maggis is directing, a natural choice given he was also the director of the BBC’s well-received radio adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere last year. The BBC also released a full voice cast list for Good Omens today, noting that…

Terry Gilliam doesn’t want Monty Python to reunite

Terry Gilliam is probably least recognized for his work as a member of Monty Python, but is by now a larger-than-life director. After creating the iconic, bafflingly bizarre aesthetic for the troupe, he went on direct classics like 12 Monkeys and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Right now, he’s working on bringing Hector Berlioz’s opera Benvenuto Cellini to the stage. But, when asked by the London Evening Standard how he felt about Monty Python’s upcoming reunion, he says he finds it “depressing.” “It’s good, seeing each other again,” he says, “but then you realise that we’re not as sharp because we like each other more. Probably. There’s none of the tension that existed before, which was what seemed to fuel the stuff.” Read the entire…

Stanley Kubrick reportedly considered a ‘Dr. Strangelove’ sequel directed by Terry Gilliam

Stanley Kubrick was far from a prolific filmmaker, but if he had a bit more time he may have worked on a sequel to Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Documents discovered after writer Terry Southern’s death in 1995 revealed that Kubrick asked him to pen a script for such a sequel, tentatively called Son of Strangelove, according to Todd Brown of Twitch. The famed filmmaker intended for Terry Gilliam to direct the picture. Brown now reports that he has confirmed with Terry Gilliam that this story isn’t just a Hollywood fable.

Gilliam told Brown at the Sitges Film Festival in Catalonia today: “I was told after Kubrick died — by someone who had been dealing with him — that he had been interested in…
