Spectacular vehicle paintings by Modestas Malinauskas

first image of the post
Lithuanian artist Modestas Malinauskas creates spectacular paintins of large vehicles. Maybe it’s just me, but upon seeing these my first impression was a mix of Hyeronymus Bosch and Myazaki influences. His fantastic paintings are made with one of the hardest techniques to master, oil painting. This is what gives it a somewhat ancient looking style […]

Song of The Car: AEV JK350 Wrangler: We test the off-road vehicle on a muddy December day while listening to rip-roaring American rock

Song of The Car: AEV JK350 Wrangler

We owe off-roading to the Russians. In 1904, Tsar Nicholas II hired French military engineer Adolphe Kégresse to head the Court Garage in St. Petersburg. The harsh wintry elements inspired Kégresse to outfit a Mercedes 32/45 with the first halftrack……

Segway just started a three-wheeled vehicle war

Segway’s claim to fame is its two-wheeled scooters’ balancing act, but today it’s introducing a product that stands a bit more firmly on the ground: the three-wheeled SE-3 Patroller. As its name suggests, the Patroller is meant for law enforcement and public safety uses. It doesn’t really have any special tricks like the traditional Segway does, but it’s being pitched as a natural extension of the scooter’s product line nonetheless. Their obvious connections are pretty limited though: they’re both battery powered, and they both have wheels.

Abb_large

The Dutch government plans to roll out a nationwide network of electric vehicle charging stations within the next two years, as part of a push to facilitate more environmentally-friendly transport. ABB, a Switzerland-based power and automation company, announced this week that it is teaming up with Dutch startup Fastned to install EV chargers at more than 200 stations across the Netherlands, with at least one station every 50 kilometers (31 miles). With more than 16 million inhabitants, the Netherlands is, to date, the most populous country to implement a nationwide EV charging network.

According to ABB, its 50 kilowatt Terra fast chargers are capable of charging an electric car within 15 to 30 minutes. The first chargers will be…

Bosch’s $449 electric vehicle home charger is a bargain

Powermax_large

Today, electric cars are too expensive for most of us, even with prices creeping downward. A Tesla Model S will run you over a grand a month, and even Ford’s electric Focus sells for nearly $ 40,000. Making matters even tougher on the wallet is the fact that a home charging station will set you back as much as another $ 2,000. The auto industry knows all of these prices have to come down if electrics will catch on. And finally — on the home charger side of things anyway — something is being done about it. Bosch is taking online pre-orders for a $ 449 home car charger that is set to ship in June across the US and Canada.
